Myofascial Release
Myofascial release (MFR) is a technique that addresses problems within the muscle
(myo)
and the connective tissue (fascia). Fascia is what gives your body its shape
through
an intricate, head-to-toe webbing. Various things can irritate the fascia
causing it to
tighten and lose its proper position in that webbing.
MFR is a technique that gently aids the fascia in softening and
returning to it's proper
position. You will have an active roll during your session including communicating
how
you're feeling and engaging in specific breathing exercises.
Most people can benefit from MFR, however it has proven to be most
beneficial with
people suffering from certain conditions that are resistant to traditional treatment
such as:
carpal tunnel, golfer's elbow, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder (adhesive capulitis),
back pain,
plantar fasciitis, TMJ, fibromyalgia, and scarring (from burns, injury or surgery).
MFR can be done for your entire session, or it can be incorporated
into any other massage
to target a specific area. It is important to note that typically, a problem
will benefit
the most from a series of treatments, one building on the other. You can expect
a
noticeable change in your range of motion after the first session, with noticeable
results
within the first few sessions.
